A-Mountain Slope Preservation REASONS to Preserve

A-Mountain is the icon of Tucson and should remain undeveloped

The slope is covered in trails which are valuable for the health and quality of life for many residents.

This beautiful green slope provides a valuable backdrop to Downtown Tucson and Rio Nuevo, as well as from I-10 and west side and downtown neighborhoods. Preserving this land would save many native plants and protect precious habitat.

This area is an important part of the corridor for wildlife between the Santa Cruz River and the Tucson Mountains.

This open space near the core of our city will lend value to our entire city and Rio Nuevo.

Preserving this land will demonstrate the City of Tucson's focus on the future and providing value to many people and leaving a better city for all generations to come.

Some direct quotes from a select few of our group:

"A Mountain provides a wildlife corridor from the Tucson Mountains to the West Branch of the Santa Cruz River . AOLT has been working with the West Branch community since 2002 to protect wildlife habitat and maintain the vital linkage to the Tucson Mountains . It is therefore crucial that we protect this slope to prevent further habitat fragmentation."
Vanessa Bechtol, AOLT

"My main reason for wanting the slopes of A-Mountain preserved: psychological and visual breathing room--there are just some things more important than covering every square inch with income-generating property. Plus, A-Mountain is our heritage, and the foremost symbol of Tucson -although a bit smaller scale, we wouldn't build condos next to the Lincoln memorial!"

”Sonoran desert conservation begins at home and the saguaro-studded
A-Mountain hill slope is our backyard--the most visible symbol of local pride
and the sentinel above Rio Nuevo and downtown
Tucson . Will A-Mountain remain flanked by the desert that draws our visitors and nurtures our sense of place or will road scars and stucco homes be what we see and are remembered by?”

"A Mountain and Menlo Park is the birthplace of Tucson, and the longest inhabited area in our community.  The preservation of this area will provide access (both visual and physical) to our birthplace for generations to come."
